3 Books Every USA Real Estate Investor Must ReadSeptember 1, 2015
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” – Benjamin Franklin
As an active real estate investor your job is to gain every possible advantage to protect your current assets and position yourself for ongoing wealth creation in your future deals. I’m a reader. I read to learn, grow and improve myself. Remember, the goal is to multiply your cash flow through USA real estate. The following three books are must haves for your home or office library and will complement my book, Real Estate Is A Team Sport.
The Obstacle Is The Way by Ryan Holiday
The author begins by examining the writing and wisdom of Marcus Aurelius. “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” We face resistance in our lives the minute we wake up each morning. We encounter obstacles in our life every day, at home with our families and at the office in our chosen professions. We have choices. We are in control of how we react to challenges and failures. Our reactions determine either success or failure.
There is a formula to success and leadership that Ryan Holiday reveals in The Obstacle Is The Way and it applies to every one of us. Investing in real estate is a business and business is riddled with obstacles. Learn how to “obstacle proof” your life from the wisdom of those who have mastered obstacle immunity.
The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone
Do you want to stamp “Guarantee” on your success? Strap in and take a high-speed ride with Grant Cardone. He amplifies the call to take action by 10X! We all deserve to be successful in life, at home, at work and with our real estate investments. The 10X Rule will take you goal setting and accountability to a level 10X where it stands today.
My two biggest take aways from this book are 1) Even though I thought that I worked hard and was taking a satisfactory level of action to achieve my goals, it was not enough. I have to take more action, more often and with more focused determination. This was a hard pill to swallow, but it’s true. I’ve reframed how I approach every task, every day. And 2) No complaining! When something doesn’t go to plan…guess what? It’s my fault and there is absolutely nobody else to blame but myself. Be accountable. Learn. Keep moving.
Take more action and stop whining! Step on board the 10X express to greatness and realize the success you deserve. Keep this book close to your desk because it is AWESOME.
The Way Of The Seal by Mark Divine, Commander, US Navy SEALs (Retired)
This is not just a book. This is life-changing event. The Way Of The Seal outlines the framework and basic principals that the US Navy SEALs are taught – remain calm, survive and win while under fire.
Mental toughness is the key to a better life, better relationships and a better business. Being an elite Special Forces operator isn’t about how many pull-ups you can do. It’s about keeping your cool under pressure and maintaining the right state of mind. Being physically strong is important in life but without mental and spiritual strength we will fall short of maximizing our true potential. The good new is that mental toughness can be taught and forged through practice and discipline.
The Way Of The Seal reveals Commander Divine’s secret to how he succeeded in Navy SEAL training, handled the stress of combat and has built multiple successful businesses. A structured system of exercises at the end of each chapter allows readers to immediately begin implementing Commander Divine’s system to building an “Unbeatable Mind”.
First, I read WOS cover to cover. Now I’m taking a year to slowly implement all of the lessons. I have already tested lessons learned in WOS in real life, high-pressure situations. I will attest that if you subscribe to this book, you will improve your mental game.
I love real estate because of the challenge and the reward. I firmly believe that “if you aren’t growing, then you’re slowing”. All three of these books are absolute must-reads if you care to increase your performance in life and in your business. We must learn from our setbacks and keep moving forward.
